Use of steam at correct pressure is important to achieve optimum heat transfer in process. Usually steam is used at available pressure without much thought on the choice. However, it is important to note that latent heat in steam is high at lower pressure. It means that less steam will be required for given process heat transfer if it is used at low pressure. As achieving desired process temperature in given time is the only criteria from process point of view, this temp. becomes the dictating parameter. Steam should be used at lowest possible pressure for a given process temp. Another well known fact about steam is the volumetric increase with reduction in pressure. For this reason, it is desirable to distribute steam at higher pressure from generating source to usage point. The logical approach to meet both the above needs is to reduce steam pressure very close to the point of usage.
it is therefore logical to use more PRV stations in a process plant. A PRV station comprises of PRV and accessories required with it to make the system reliable and uninterrupted.

 

Seat Less & Gland Less Type Design Piston Valves

Traditionally the valves used on various fluids in industries are Globe/Gate/Ball/Plug/Butterfly valves. Any of these valves will have a seat and a spindle for closing and opening action. The spindle extends beyond the seating area for actuation. Glands and gland packings are used to ensure proper sealing of the valve internals and prevent leakage. In spite of taking all precautions, valve leakages have become so common that people, at times, have two or three valves in series hoping that if one fails, the other will hold. Valve leakage can be either through the seat, when the fluid flows across the seat even when the valve is tightly closed. This happens because of erosion effects on the contact surfaces. Some physical dirt particles may also prevent tight shut-offs. The other possible leakage will be from the valve internal area to atmosphere leading to visible leakages. A Piston Valve is a seatless and glandless valve. It uses a piston, lantern bush and a set of rings for valve operation. The piston is made of SS while the rings are made of resilient materials to provide tight shut-off. These are used on all process fluids with various combinations of piston and piston rings material.
Piston valves are fitted with Belleville washers to take care of stresses generated due to uneven thermal expansion of different valve components. Once installed in line the valves need to ne retightened when hot for long and trouble-free operation.
UKL Piston Valves are made in cast and forged steel with all possible end connections.

Actuated Ball & Butterfly Valve


In many process applications, it becomes necessary to provide simple actuating mechanism for opening and closing of valves. Selection of the valve will largely depend on the fluid to be handled. It could be Ball Valve for gases and such lighter fluids or Butterfly Valve for larger diameter but light duty applications.They  provide the right marriage of valve with actuator depending on the application and the extent of control required.  The objective is to provide simple, yet effective process control. Any process that allows energy contained in Steam condensate to go unutilised, is losing money in terms of fuel costs. Steam condenses to water at saturated temperature and so, depending on the pressure during condensation, the temperature of water may be 100 oC or more. Heat content in condensate is about 20% of the fuel energy burnt in the boiler. This is usable heat energy; it would be waste of money and resources, if not recycled for reuse as boiler feed water or any process hot water requirement. Condensate Recovery System

Condensate flash vessel, Steam pressure powered pump, Steam powered pump packaged unit, Thermo compressors System Condensate Flash Vessel: Flash steam can be effectively recovered by using a Condensate Flash Vessel as a part of a Flash Steam Recovery System. The flash steam is free steam and can be used to supplement the normal steam requirement. Flash steam should be separated from the condensate to maximise the system”s efficiency. Since the flash steam is utilised, it will not be vented to the atmosphere where it is wasted and can be a safety hazard.Pressure Powered Pump: Hot condensate still contains 20% of the energy you used to make steam in the first place. And since condensate is distilled water, it makes perfect boiler feedwater. Our positive displacement pressure Powered Pump is the heart of a money and energy saving Condensate Return System.The PPPU pumps condensate at 100 oC without electricity, using just a small blast of steam or air pressure, even under vacuum and stall conditions. Due to its sealed & gland-less design, the collected condensate can be pumped immediately, without waiting for it to cool, and with no risk of cavitation.Pressure Powered Pumping Packaged Unit (PPPPU): Pressure Powered Pumping Packaged Unit is a positive displacement pump unit operated by steam, compressed air or pressurized gas. The unit is specifically designed to pump hot liquids of specific gravity 1.0 down to 0.9.Condensate Recovery (CRM) is also an integral part of the PPPPU. It is an effective management tool which not only shows the condensate quantity & condensate temperature, but also shows the energy saved through condensate return.Together, this unit is a complete solution to collect condensate, pump it to desired level and destination, to measure the condensate temperature and meter the condensate quantity. PPPPU has to be preceded with properly sized flash vessel depending upon the condensate parameters.

 

Pressure Powered Pumps

In these days of energy conservation, hot condensate is too valuable to be lost as it contains more than 25% of heat used in creating steam. Also it is distilled water that makes excellent feed water for boilers. These are pumps used to pump condensate to the desired location and are cheaper to operate as against electrically operated pumps which require special impellers to avoid risk of cavitations by condensate.These are basically vessels with a float assembly. When condensate level raises the float rises activating a valve through which a short burst of pressurized steam /air is let in which in turn pumps the condensate through the vessel. The flow of condensate is regulated by two check valves at the inlet and outlet of the vessel.

Magnetic Level Gauge Assembly

To make the magnetic level gauges work a float in a bypass chamber (standpipe), fitted on the side of a tank, rises and falls with the liquid level of the medium in the tank being measured. The bypass chamber is completely liquid and gas tight. The only moving part of the liquid level gauge in contact with the liquid is the float. When the float moves a two coloured magnetic roller is turned through 180 ° by the magnet built into the float and this causes a change in colour in the sight window on the outside of the chamber. In this way a continuous visual indication of the liquid level is achieved, completely without any external power source.Magnetic level gauges are also available for over-tank mounting. With this design rollers are fitted on a chamber above the tank and turn due to the effect of a magnet at the top end of a guide rod, which is supported at its bottom end by a float. The only part in contact with the liquid in this design is the float.Area of application: The liquid level gauge is suitable for almost all liquids, including aggressive, toxic or spinning liquids; also suitable for liquid gas.Temperature: -160 °C (low temperature version) up to 450 °C (high-temperature version)Pressure glass gauges: Magnetic level gauges work from complete vacuum up to 400 bar (40 MPa).
